About Melany

Since the age of four, the piano has been Melany Thompson’s home — a place of comfort, expression, and calm.

Growing up in Sydney with classical training from childhood, Melany performed at the Sydney Opera House at age 12. But it wasn’t until recent years that she began sharing her original compositions with the world. What followed has been a quiet, sustained connection with listeners across the globe: over 14 million streams, and music that has found its way into playlists, living rooms, and television screens far beyond her expectations. Her debut album Memories of Home (2019) was nominated for Solo Piano’s Classical Album of the Year. Since then, Melany has released music with independent labels worldwide — including Soothe Sounds, Yellow Rose Records, Andante, and Silent Beat Records — with each release finding new audiences through editorial playlist placements on Spotify and Apple Music.

Alongside her artist releases, Melany has built a parallel career composing for screen. Her music has been featured in television programs across Australia and the United States, and in 2025 she received an APRA Screen Music Award nomination as part of the composing team behind the crime underscore for the Australian documentary series Murder Down Under — a milestone that reflects her growing reputation as a serious compositional voice. Her latest album, Mood Blue, was released in March 2026.
